Google Inc. advertizing agent Shenzhen Winkee Networking Co. denied a report by China’s state- run broadcaster it was involved in sending a letter seeking compensation plans for a possible Google pullout from China.
“I have checked with the head of the company and other relevant officials and found out we haven’t sent or signed any such letter,” said Feng Mingming, the sales official in charge of Google ads at Shenzhen Winkee. “Google has not officially announced that it would quit China’s market so we do not think this is the time to make such demands.”
China Central Television yesterday posted a letter on its Web site identifying 27 Google partners, including Shenzhen Winkee, as jointly sending a letter to John Liu, vice president of sales for greater China. Google has received the letter and is reviewing it, spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker said.
Google should disclose plans to compensate agents relying on the Mountain View, California-based company, their workers and customers, according to the letter posted on CCTV’s Web site.
