CCID Consulting Analyzes China's Router Market in 2008H1

CCID Consulting, China's leading research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider, and the first Chinese consulting firm listed in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Stock Exchange: HK08235), recently released its article on China's router market in 2008H1.

In 2008H1, China's new broadband users reached 9.593 million; the number of users reached 76.007 million, and these numbers continue in their steady growth. With network developments and improvements, various broadband applications became mature and network applications gradually became the office norm, which drove the development of the network equipment market. CCID Consulting's data shows that China's network equipment market has kept a steady growth in 2008H1. The size of the router market reached 3.973 billion Yuan, up 8.2% year-on-year.

The router market's steady growth in 2008H1 has benefited from the major broadband carriers energetic development of FTTH construction, which drives the rapid growth of middle-and high-end routers, such as China Telecom and China Netcom. On the other hand, network marketing, e-commerce and cooperative offices have been welcome in enterprise-grade users. Enterprises pay more attention to their network construction and quality, so enterprise- grade users' demands for various routers has grown rapidly, especially the multi-services integration routers, which integrate VoIP, security, wireless and VPN.

In order to cater for market demands, major manufacturers continue to strengthen R&D and promotion of multi-services integration routers. Cisco launched Cisco ASR 1000 in 2008Q1 and video monitoring solutions in 2008Q2, which could be applied in the Cisco ISR platform. This solution can realize physical security and connect video monitoring and other network applications, such as unified communications, network security, VPN and mobile. This solution's release further strengthens its competitiveness. Meanwhile, Huawei and Juniper also launched integrated type router products so as to maintain their market share. At the end of 2007, H3C launched the MSR 20-1X series multi-services integration routers, which have favorable achievements in 2008H1; its Intranet solutions have a certain competitiveness, which integrates wireless, security and storage.

As for market pattern, 2008H1 continued the market's competitive nature of the last two years. Cisco, Juniper and Huawei are major manufacturers in the carriers' high-end market; Huawei, ASB and ZTE are the major manufacturers in middle-and low-end markets. As for the Intranet, Cisco and H3C account for most of the market. MAIPU, Ruijie and BDCOM have advantages in particular areas and industries, while, based on the accumulations of brands, technology and market, they actively extend to the high-end market.
