Lenovo Group Ltd<992><LNVGY>, the fourth-largest PC manufacturer in the world, announced on Wednesday it will make the first customized e-commerce computer targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in cooperation with Alibaba.com<1688>, China's most well-known B2B e-commerce portal, and Intel Corp.
According to the announcement, the e-commerce computer is likely to be released as early as September this year. On offer will be a range of desktops and notebooks, besides relevant peripherals.
Newspaper reports said Alibaba and Intel jointly launched a plan on May 12 to develop and improve SMEs' basic ability to handle e-transactions. They were looking for a potential computer manufacturer and appear to have zeroed-in on Lenovo.
The plan initiated by Intel and Alibaba is named "Empowering China" and is expected to help provide more enterprise-based and comprehensive e-commerce solutions, and eventually enable the 42 million Chinese SMEs to achieve sustained growth through e-commerce.
