Korea-based Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, one of the world's five leading liquid crystal display (LCD) providers, may build a new LCD module plant in China so as to meet the increasing demand on planar TV sets in the world's fastest-growing major economy, according to Samsung's statement on Friday.
The new plant will principally specialize in the installation of LCD in planar TVs, said the spokesman of the company. Samsung is looking for an appropriate site for the plant.
The Korean company now operates a LCD module plant in China that is engaged in LCD installation in laptops and PCs.
In addition, Samsung Electronics bears down Dell Inc to be the world's No. 1 LCD provider by sales in the first quarter of this year, according to Display Search's statistics. It sold 6.3 million LCDs worldwide during the period, up 21% from a year earlier.
