Mobile Phone Shipments Exceeded 50 Million in China in July

CATR (China Academy of Telecommunication Research) released operating report of China's handset market for July 2016 on August 10.

According to the report, handset shipments hit 50.865 million in China in July with a 13.2% YoY increase while 137 new models of handsets went on sale, reducing 26.7% compared with a year earlier. In the first seven months of 2016, the handset shipments increased 8.1% to 304 million and 900 new models were released, dropping by 6.7%.

4G handsets

In July, the shipments of 4G mobile phones climbed 23.3% to 48.125 million, accounting for 94.6% of the handset shipments while 121 new 4G models went on sale, falling by 16.6% and catching 88.3% of the new models. In the first half of the year, 4G handset shipments rose 20.4%, coming in at 281 million, with 770 new models which added 10.5% year on year.

In July, all-network mobile phones accounted for 66.5% of the 4G handset shipments. Handsets of FDD, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and cdma2000 boasted 75.2%, 97.9%, 74.3% and 67.6% respectively of the 4G units.

Domestic-brand handsets

In July, a 28.0% growth happened to the shipments of domestic-brand handsets, 47.603 million, accounting for 93.6% of the total handset shipments in China with 133 new models released, catching 97.1% of the new models over the same period.

Android handsets

With 40.904 million Android handsets included, 48.212 million smartphones shipped in July shows a 21% YoY growth, accounting for 94.8% of the handset shipments. In 1H16, the smartphone shipments have increased 14.3% to 283 million, catching 93% of the total handset shipments, including 238 million Android handsets.
