CAICT (China Academy of Information and Communications Technology) released the Domestic-brand Mobile Phone Development Report of 2015 at the Mobile Intelligent Terminal Summit 2015 on December 23rd. The report noted that the shipment of mobile phones in 2015 in China maintains a steady increase of 10 percent after the migration of mobile phones from 3G to 4G has been completed. The shipment of domestic-brand mobile phones has captured over 80 percent of China’s market while China’s smartphone market concentration rate has increased.

In terms of the international market, the growth rate of global smartphone shipment has fallen gradually from 60 percent in 2011 to 11 percent in the first three quarters of 2015 according to the report. The fierce market competition led to constant changes in the dominant vendor structure. The data of 3Q15 shows that Samsung accounts for 23.8% of the global smartphone market, Apple, Huawei, Lenovo, and Xiaomi are 13.5%, 7.5%, 5.3% and 5.2% respectively.

There are approximately 290 mobile phone vendors in production in China after mobile phone’s migration from 3G to 4G. The shipment of the Top 5 domestic-brand smartphone vendors has captured more market share in China in 2015 than last year, reaching 63 percent, which brings about the increase of smartphone market concentration rate in China. Domestic brands are already dominant in China’s smartphone market.
