Some insiders reveal that Sony Mobile Communications is predicted to have about 700-800 layoffs in China, taking the majority among Sony Mobile global layoff, which also means the Greater China always becomes the key region once international mobile phone vendors entrepreneurs layoff.
Out of dissatisfaction to layoff, some Sony Mobile staff have been protesting at the gate of Sony China, requiring to increase the compensation standard and expose the layoff procedure.
It is said that Sony Mobile insists that firstly, Sony Mobile will reduce the mobile business scale in China. The 1000 staff layoff plan which will be implemented by Sony Mobile includes quite a big part from China.
Secondly, Sony Mobile will stop the development on specific phone modes for China market, but it may provide multi-mode phones.
Thirdly, Sony Mobile will accelerate business reform measures implementation under the new managerial leadership announced on October 30th, to establish an operation architecture which can stabilize contribution profit.
Sony includes consumer electronic group, professional system group and electron component group; Sony Mobile belongs to consumer electronic group. The 1000 staff layoff plan which will be implemented by Sony Mobile includes quite a big part from China, about 700-800.
However, Sony declares that it will not give up its mobile phone business and announces in a public material that “it will grasp the market chances on smartphones, security, automobiles and other rapid developing industries to step up on a new stage in China.”
