TCL Corporation denied the rumor of taking over HTC

TCL Corporation made an announcement Saturday, recently many media reported that, the Chairman of TCL Corporation Li Dongsheng implied in his Weibo that TCL has intention of taking over Taiwan smartphone vendor HTC. In order to protect the interests of investors, the company verified the relevant information. TCL Corporation or its holding subsidiary companies have not been in any discussions on related transactions with HTC or its shareholders, nor were any related agreements made. The rumors are not true.

At the same time, HTC also said that it is not interested in a takeover, "only rely on our independent operation can we provide the greatest value for our shareholders". In addition, the company also emphasizes, because the company has no debt, the cash reserves has reach $1.7 billion and it has the ability to raise funds on its own, it doesn’t need support of the capital market in 2015 or even in the future.

The rumors started from October 8th, Li Dongsheng commented on HTC in his Weibo, which was the eve of HTC’s new product release meeting. Li Dongsheng praised HTC and said "we are both Chinese mobile phone vendors, I hope HTC can make its own place in the mobile device market, and Chinese enterprises in Taiwan and mainland should cooperate to compete with Apple and Korean vendors."
