In present global smart phone market, Qualcomm, undoubtedly, is the prominent leader, which benefits from the company’s lasting investment on technology, product layout design and long-term cultivation on the whole ecosystem, said Wang Yufei, the Product Marketing Director of Qualcomm, who accepted C114 interview at PT/EXPO COMM CHINA 2014.
In the past, Qualcomm’s chips has advantages in high-and-mid end products, but now, its product lines have been more comprehensive. Recently, Qualcomm launches Snapdragon™210 processor and it is the first time to be able to support 4G LTE technology on this level. Qualcomm also launches Snapdragon™ 208 processor only to support 3G technology, for 3G service is still in the lifecycle.
“According to mobile communication industry development in the past, there’s no doubt that the market needs certain tipping point, thus activating lower-end market is necessary; Qualcomm has clear understanding about this, especially China market has always been the most important considerable regional market of the company. Lower-end product has significance to detonate the 4G market, for it can function as a substitution for 3G devices in quantity. ”said Wang Yufei.
In fact, Qualcomm has been dedicated in promoting lower-end 4G market development. Last year, the company launched Snapdragon™400 processor, which initially promoted lower-end market to focus on 4G LTE smart device platforms. “Upon the basis of success of Snapdragon™400 processor, it is expected that the price of 4G LTE smartphones will be dragged down around 1000 yuan; by applying 64 digit technology, the performance and multi-media content capability will show great progress.”
Again, Wang Yufei stressed the great importance that China means to Qualcomm, “Qualcomm has always been insisting that Chinese lower-end market has significant importance. On one hand, China is a huge lower-end consumption market, once it is activated, no exaggeration, it can advance global lower-end market ecosystem to become more mature; on the other hand, China is also a important production nation of smart device in the global market. Base on the lower-end platform and reference design,the China clients can design and manufacture the lower-end 4G smartphone,it will have very special significance for global LTE development and detonation. ”
