Xiaomi Sells Record 1.3 Million Phones in 12 Hours

Updated:2014/4/9 17:26

The company has reached this milestone during the Mi Fan Festival, which was held on April 8. The vendor had three smartphones up for grabs, including the Xiaomi Mi3, the Redmi, and the new Redmi Note.

The three devices became available for purchase in four markets in Asia, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and mainland China, starting with 10 AM. Depending on the region, the vendor ended the sales at either 8PM or 10PM.

In addition to selling the aforementioned 1.3 million handsets, Xiaomi has also announced on Facebook and Weibo that sales revenues from this have reached US$ 242 million (€175.51 million), as a recent article on techinasia reads.

Apparently, the mobile phone maker offered batches of said phones in two-hour intervals, while also providing users with the possibility to purchase various discounted peripherals, including headphones and batteries.

The company has also provided specific info on sales in each of the aforementioned markets, claiming that it topped NT$ 430 million (about US$ 14 million/€10.15 million) in sales revenues in Taiwan.

Here, Xiaomi sold 73,000 devices, though it had prepared 80,000 of them, including 20,000 Mi3 phones and 60,000 mid-range Redmi units.

In Hong Kong, the vendor managed to reach HK$ 66 million (about $8.5 million/€6.16 million) in sales revenues, with over 49,000 units sold (of the initially planned 50,000 devices: 10,000 Mi3s and 40,000 Redmi).

Sales in Singapore were not as high as the company might have expected, though it did manage to top S$ 2.28 million in total orders (about US$ 1.9 million/€1.38 million), and said that it received 11,000 overall orders for handsets and accessories.

In China, however, the vendor managed to reach RMB 1.4 billion (about US$ 225 million/€163.2 million) in sales revenues yesterday alone.

Apparently, despite that, the company did not manage to completely sell the prepared stock of devices, which included over 600,000 Redmi, 600,000 Redmi Note, and 400,000 Mi3 units.

Later this year, Xiaomi plans on expanding its operations to more markets in Asia, including Malaysia and India, and seems confident that it will enjoy increased success in these markets as well.

In fact, the mobile phone maker said earlier that it had set a goal to sell 60 million devices before the end of the year, and that it planned on increasing the number to 100 million in 2015.
