Apple postpones mass production of iPad 2

Updated:2010/12/8 08:43

Apple had postponed its plans to start mass production of iPad 2 in January, it was reported on Tuesday.

Apple had planned to possibly start mass production of the next-generation iPad in January, but those plans were postponed until about February, as the tablet's hardware and specifications have not been finalized by Apple, the DigiTimes news website said.

Once production started in February, the first shipment of iPad 2 could start as soon as the same month, the report said, quoting unnamed sources at Chinese manufacturer Foxconn Electronics, which builds some Apple products.

Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said the company "declines to comment on rumors."

Apple has sold more than seven million iPads so far this year despite the lack of features found in lower-priced devices such as the iPod and the iPhone -- namely cameras.

A new generation of iPad might include cameras, FaceTime video chat and mini-USB port, according to an earlier report from PC World.
