Nokia, a mobile telecommunications and mobile devices manufacturing company reportedly has entered into a long-run business relationship with ST-Ericsson (News - Alert) for offering TD-SCDMA technology and solutions. This partnership will enable Nokia to position ST-Ericsson as regular supplier of Symbian open source chipset platform based TD-SCDMA devices and services range.
"TD-SCDMA is a core part of our strategy to deliver the best mobile user experience to Chinese people," Heikki Koivu, vice president, TD-SCDMA, Nokia (News - Alert), said.
In October during the launch of Nokia 6788 a Symbian based TD-SCDMA mobile, Nokia has made its intentions known for an exclusive TD-SCDMA R&D team in Beijing for the development TD-SCDMA application. The current partnership of ST-Ericsson will facilitate Nokia industry to formulate such a team to usher a new era in Chinese mobile market with TD-SCDMA standard by generating increased cliental experience.
ST-Ericsson is a company engaged in building and bringing in a variety of mobile platforms and progressive solutions for a wide range of mobile technologies. The company currently provides technology solutions to most of the handset manufacturers and service providers globally. ST-Ericsson is expected to meet the TD-SCDMA requirement of Nokia through its Chinese ancillary T3G.
The long-standing collaboration between the companies now extends into a new area," Pascal Langlois, chief sales and marketing officer at ST-Ericsson, said. The partnership will accelerate the pace of TD-SCDMA development, shorten time to market, and boost the TD market."
“Based on Symbian (News - Alert), TD-SCDMA will be enriched by the mature Symbian ecosystem, its devices, services and solutions,” Koivu said. “At the same time, TD-SCDMA will offer Symbian ecosystem partners more opportunities in the future.”
