LG Electronics is bullish on the Chinese mobile phone market and will enlarge its investment in the mobile phone business in China next year, disclosed an executive from the company.
LG plans to launch 60 new mobile phone models and spend CNY 1 billion on market promotion in 2009, said the executive, adding that the company now is deepening its cooperation with leading telecoms operators.
Despite the global financial crisis, LG's mobile phone business grew fast in the third quarter of 2008. As the world's fourth-largest mobile phone maker, it gained cellphone sales revenue of KRW 3.514 trillion in July-September 2008, leaping 40.8% year on year.
Over the period, mobile phone sales volume totaled 34.97 million in China, sliding 2.7% quarter on quarter. As for the CDMA segment, LG ranked the fourth place with a 13.9%, after Samsung 26.9%, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. 23.3%, and ZTE Corporation (SZSE: 000063 and SEHK: 0763) 16%.
