Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment Co., Ltd. will focus on the CDMA sector and lift up its mobile phone shipment by 50% in 2009, Rong Xiuli, board chairman of the company disclosed.
The company has entered into agreements with QUALCOMM Incorporated on CDMA and WCDMA patents and will mainly develop CDMA mobile phones next year.
Tianyu won a CDMA mobile phone procurement order from China Telecom Corporation Ltd. this May. But the CDMA mobile phones were installed chips made by VIA Technologies Inc, said the board chairman, adding that the Beijing company will enhance its cooperation with the US patent owner and use QUALCOMM's chips for its new products in 2009.
Tianyu's mobile phone shipment amounted to 17 million in 2007 and nearly 30 million in 2008. CDMA mobile phones only took up 5% of the total.
