New York Times has reported that Apple had to disable the GPS functionality of its Apple iPhone 3G mobile device to get it approved for launch in Egypt.
The company is currently in talks with the mobile service providers in China to launch this iconic mobile phone in the world’s largest mobile phone market.
The newspaper report said that the company modified the iPhone for Egypt to meet the requirements of the government.
Egypt had reportedly shown concerns that the GPS functionality could become a potential security risk as it enables the user to pinpoint the location of military bases.
The Chinese market could see the launch of a crippled iPhone as well.
