China's mobile phone makers received orders for mobile phones worth more than USD 5 billion in total at the 2008 Global Mobile Phone Procurement and Customized Summit held in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen recently.
Notably, the buyers included more than 50 telecommunications carriers, branded mobile phone producers, mobile phone distributors in nearly 30 countries and territories, plenty of which were from emerging markets like Africa, South America and Middle East.
China, which maintains double-digital growths in mobile phone output, domestic sales and export since the beginning of 2008, has become the world's largest mobile phone production and export base, pointed out Mr. Brian Holmes, expert in the wireless telecommunications industry.
More telecoms operators in emerging markets, along with those renowned ones like Vodafone and BT Group, have been buying customized products from China as part of their efforts to outdo their peers amid the intense competition, said market observers.
