SINGTEL is in talks to bring in the HTC G1, the so-called 'Google' phone, and other 'interesting' smart phones, to Singapore, the company said at an earnings briefing on Wednesday.
Discussions with the G1's manufacturer, Taiwan's HTC, and Google, which makes the software, are underway, said SingTel's chief executive for Singapore Allen Lew.
But he declined to say when it will have the device on the shelves.
For the quarter ended Sept 30, SingTel, Singapore's biggest listed company and the region's largest telco, reported a 12.1 per cent drop in net profit to $868 million, due to subsidies for the Apple iPhone, and foreign currency fluctuations that resulted in lower income from its overseas units like Bharti and Telkomsel.
