Despite being the most sold handset in the USA and now having been released in around 70 other countries, the iPhone 3G still did not put Apple in the top 5 global mobile phones vendors.
According to the most recent IDC report for Q3 2008, the company is still nowhere to be found in the coveted top 5 list.
Current leaders are Nokia with 39.4% global market share, followed by Samsung with 17.3%. Sony Ericsson, Motorola and LG all currently control between 7.7 to 8.6% of the market share.

At the same time the folks at Apple shouldn’t be disappointed about these results, as manufacturer of BlackBerry devices Research In Motion is also nowhere to be found on this list.
