Casio intros handset with 8.1MP camera, 3.1-inch OLED
Updated:2008/10/29 10:18
Casio, in conjunction with KDDI AU, on Monday announced the upcoming release of the EXIFILM-series W63CA flip phone that features one of the most advanced cameras in the industry, with an 8.1-megapixel camera carrying a nine-point autofocus and a wide-angle mode. The CDMA handset also sports a 3.1-inch, 480x800 OLED screen that rotates in the same fashion as a tablet PC's screen and can be left facing outside so users can enjoy streaming video provided by the phone's 1Seg support in Japan. Apart from the previously-mentioned camera features, the camera also has built-in face detection tech, along with anti-shake, and a YouTube mode that records VGA video at 30fps to a microSD card. The recorded video or captured photos can also be output to a TV via a connection, though the required cable is sold separately. Stereo Bluetooth support is also part of the feature set. Among other features, the noteworthy include an integrated dictionary that will translate words from Japanese to English, while another feature will translate Japanese text to English and read it out loud. The handset can also be used to make mobile electronic payments in supported markets. Available in pink, white gold or green, the less than 0.7-inch thick W63CA will launch in Japan early in November.
