DoCoMo, Renesas, Fujitsu, and Sharp to develop platform for HSUPA phone

Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers NTT DoCoMo is teaming up with Renesas Technology, Fujitsu and Sharp Corporation to jointly develop the SH-Mobile G4 single-chip LSI device, and a platform incorporating it, to support the HSUPA1/HSDPA2/W-CDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE mobile telephony standards. In a joint press release the four companies say the development work on the platform is scheduled for completion by January–March 2010. It is claimed the new SH-Mobile G4 will provide enhanced functionality and improved performance for applications handling HD3 video and 3-D graphics. In addition it will support HSUPA to boost uplink speeds to a maximum of 5.7Mbps.
