RIM: Vodafone rejected first Storm attempt

Research In Motion's co-CEO Mark Lazaridis confirmed that Vodafone originally rejected RIM's first go at creating the BlackBerry Storm, saying it was not cutting edge enough.

The news comes two days after RIM officially unveiled the touchscreen Storm, which is being launched by Verizon Wireless in the United States and Vodafone in Europe, India, Australia and New Zealand. A US launch date and prices have not been made available yet.

"I thought that when we put Quadband EDGE and GPS and a powerful CPU and high-performance graphics cards on one tiny board," Lazaridis was quoted by the website Pocket Lint. "I figured that that was enough of a breakthrough and Vodafone sent me packing!"
