LG and Philips ensure the iPhone's got competition
Updated:2008/8/28 11:18
While the iPhone 3G has just been launched in India and other Asian markets, competitor are hot on its trail. LG has announced the LG10000, a CDMA smartphone that will use Reliance's mobile network in India. The phone is designed in a clamshell form and features a 2.8 inch touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard as well. It is compatible with Microsoft Exchange Server and HTML browsing. It also has 2.0 MP camera with video recording and up to 8 GB of microSD memory. The phone will be priced between Rs. 22,000 ($505) to Rs. 25,000 and will be available through Reliance mobile outlets and retail stores. Interestingly, LG has already launched this handset in the US as the Voyager and it was one of the iPhone's main competitors over there. And now that the iPhone is sizing up Indian markets, LG India too looks like it is ready to bring the battle here. Talking of iPhone killers Philips has just announced two of them- the X800 and the Xenium X-Connect. Similar to the iPhone, both models feature full touchscreens. The X800 has a 2.9 inch screen that displays 262k colors at a resolution of 240 x 400 resolution. It also shares the same specs as the iPhone in terms of their camera, both feature 2.0 MP cameras. However, the X800 does seem limited in connectivity options as it only supports 2G GSM and does not have either EDGE or Wi-Fi. Browsing might also prove uninspiring since the phone can only exploit WAP 2.0. The Xenium X-Connect has a cool 3 inch touchscreen and runs on Windows Mobile 6. It has more connectivity options than the X800 and has 3G and GPRS but still, unfortunately, no Wi-Fi. Other features include Bluetooth 2.0, USB and microSD memory slot.Philips is yet to announce the prices and release dates for both phones.
