Sony Ericsson launches PlayNow Arena

Updated:2008/8/26 11:40

Sony Ericsson has unveiled its latest push into the content market, the PlayNow Arena website. Initially available in the Nordic market, the website features music, games and other mobile entertainment. The site initially boasts 1 million DRM-free tracks from the record labels such as Sony BMG, Warner Music and EMI. The site will expand to other European countries later this year and go global in 2009, ultimately selling five million tracks. Martin Blomkvist, Sony Ericsson's head of content acquisition and management, told Dow Jones in an interview that offering digital music without rights or copying restrictions and games will help pull users toward the new site, providing a larger separate revenue stream, and stimulate handset sales. All tracks sold in Sweden will cost SEK 9.
