LG Electronics dominated the world CDMA phone market in the second quarter of the year with all-time record market share.

U.S. market researcher Strategy Analytics on Wednesday said LG took a 27.5 percent share in the world CDMA market in the second quarter with sales of 12.7 million handsets, maintaining its leading position for six consecutive quarters since the first quarter of last year. Samsung came second with 17.7 percent or 8.2 million phones and Motorola third with 11 percent or 5.1 million.

LG performed especially well in North America, the largest CDMA market, where more than half of its total global sales or 7.6 million phones were made. The biggest hit models were touch screen phones suiting the latest trend in the U.S. market, such as Voyager (1.3 million units) and Venus (1 million units).

In both GSM and 3G phone markets, Nokia became the leader with 48 percent and 39 percent market shares, respectively.
