LG Electronics Inc. was the top seller of CDMA technology-based mobile phones in the second quarter, a market report showed Wednesday.
The South Korean company sold 12.7 million units out of the total 46.2 million CDMA phones sold globally in the April-June period, reaching a 27.5 per cent market share, according to the report from Strategy Analytics.
LG Electronics, the world's fourth-largest mobile phone maker, has led the CDMA mobile phone market for the sixth-consecutive quarter. Its CDMA-based market share, which stood at 18.1 per cent a year ago, climbed to 25.9 per cent in the first quarter.
The company was trailed by Samsung Electronics Co. and Motorola Inc., with shares of 17.7 per cent and 11 per cent, respectively.
LG's achieved the sales figure largely due to its strength in North American market, where it sold 59.8 per cent of all of its CDMA models during the period on the increasing popularity of its touch-screen phones.
LG's presence in North America is becoming an increasing threat to its rivals. LG recently beat Samsung to become the No. 2 mobile phone seller in the U.S. and released its latest touch-screen model, nicknamed "Dare," last month to compete with the third-generation iPhone from Apple Inc.
