In the previous quarter, LG Electronics chased Motorola, the steady leader in the US market. But, it failed to take away the leading position from Motorola.
According to Strategy Analytics, Motorola, the world’s 3rd largest mobile phone maker, accounted for 25.8% in the US market, maintaining its leading position. SA’s Analyst Neil Moston said, “Using its strong relationship with mobile carriers, Motorola was able to maintain its leading position in the market. However, its gap against competitors is narrowing. Therefore, the company should not feel comfort with its current position.”

LG Electronics accounted for 21% in the US market, taking away the 2nd position from its traditional competitor, Samsung Electronics, thanks to the popularity of touch screen phones and the competition against Apple’s iPhone.

In the previous quarter, the sales of mobile phones in the US market has grown 5% more than the previous quarter, recording 42 million units, despite the sluggish economy in the US. Market researchers said that the result comes from the steady development of new products as well as new plans based on the scheduled subscription.
Meanwhile, Canada’s Research in Motion, a manufacturer of BlackBerry, recorded a double digit in market share for the first time in history. Nokia also accounted for 9.5%, doubling its market share in the US market.
