China added 44.84 million new mobile phone subscribers in the first five months of 2008, pushing the country's total figure up to 592.13 million, while fixed-line subscribers numbered 358.9 million, down 6.55 million from the end of 2007, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Ministry of Industry and Informatizaton (MII).
