China Ships 159 Million Mobile Phones Domestically in First 4 Months of 2017

CAICT (China Academy of Information and Communications Technology) released China's Mobile Phone Market Operation Analysis Report in April on May 10.

The report noted that the shipped mobile phones reached 41.128 million in the domestic market, a 3.3 percent decline year-over-year. 116 new models were rolled out dropping 35.6 percent. During the first four months of this year, the handset shipments increased 0.4 percent to 159 million and 341 new models went on sale, down 32.9 percent compared with the same period of last year.

From a brand perspective, 38.438 million domestic-brand cellphones were shipped in China in April with a 0.5 percent YoY growth, accounting for 93.5 percent of the shipped mobile phones in the same period; 109 new models of cellphone came out with a decline of 38.4 percent, accounting for 94 percent of the shipped new models of mobile phones.

In April, China's smartphone shipments hit 38.588 million, down 3.3 percent, accounting for 93.8 percent of the total cellphone shipments, including 33.318 million Android devices.
