ZTE and NetCologne Agree on Strategic Partnership

Updated:2017/2/20 10:39

Duesseldorf/Cologne, February 16, 2017– ZTE, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, announced that it has agreed on a strategic partnership with NetCologne GmbH, a leading regional network operator in the greater Cologne-Bonn area. The objective of the cooperation agreement signed today is the joint development of projects in the GPON and G.fast area to improve the network quality and user experience for the customers of NetCologne.

As an independent regional network provider, NetCologne, a subsidiary of GEW K?ln AG, provides the city of Cologne and the associated region with reliable and future-proof telecommunication services. The service portfolio ranges from the provisioning of voice and data services to the distribution of TV services – both for private users and for business customers. For business customers, the company also offers state-of-the-art ICT solutions and has its own four high-performance data centers within Cologne.

Within the context of the agreement signed today, ZTE will support the regional carrier initially with the further development of the existing VDSL-FTTB network toward a GPON network with G.fast technology. While GPON shall be used as an uplink technology, G.Fast expands the existing FTTB infrastructure and will be seamlessly integrated into the existing NetCologne network environment. With G.fast technology, buildings with existing copper-based cabling can be connected to the fiber-optic network of NetCologne and achieve bandwidths up to 1 Gbps. ZTE has been a leading technology provider for many years for GPON/G.fast, including the latest DSLAM products and G.fast gateways.

“With its extensive expertise and its innovative ITC solutions, ZTE is the perfect partner to support NetCologne with the expansion of its position as a leading regional telecommunication provider,” explains Sun Jie, Managing Director of ZTE Deutschland GmbH.

Horst Schmitz, Head of the Technical Department at NetCologne, explains: “We look forward to working with such a renowned solution provider as ZTE. With the innovative ZTE solutions, we will consequently further pursue our objective to offer our customers the best possible performance and user experience.”
