Baicells launches one of the world's smallest base stations - elfCell at Mobile World Congress 2016

Updated:2016/2/22 11:23

Baicells will launch one of the world's smallest base stations -- elfCell at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona Spain during February 22rd to 25th, 2016. As an indoor small cell, elfCell uses the FSM90xx chipsets, a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, and integrates baseband, RF and antenna. The palm-sized elfCell is considered to be one of the world's smallest base stations.

Currently, analysts estimate that 85% of the data traffic happens indoors. User experience is significantly affected by indoor network coverage. At the same time, it is always difficult for operators to deploy base stations in the residential and enterprise scenarios. Baicells small-sized elfCell is designed to help solve this problem. With low power consumption, less cables, and a smaller size, elfCell can be installed at any place to provide deep coverage in an environment friendly way.

"We believe that efficient, small and green elfCell will not only cater to operators' demand for deep coverage and simple deployment, but also help satisfy users' growing need for mobile data," said Neville Meijers, vice president, business development, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

In consideration of techniques, production cost and environmental factors, Baicells chose Qualcomm Technologies' FSM90xx chipsets to design and manufacture elfCell. "We are more than pleased to work with companies such as Baicells and we are very encouraged about the prospects of elfCell," added Mr. Meijers.

"Compliant with 3GPP standard, elfCell can be used by the general public. It can support flexible frequency bands, FDD/TDD dual modes and most importantly plug & play which mean a zero configuration, zero installation for indoor coverage. Qualcomm Technologies' FSM90xx chipsets help the elfCell achieve stable performance in a palm-sized design with built-in antenna. We really appreciate support from Qualcomm Technologies," said Mr. Wei Bai, Vice President Marketing of BaiCells. "ElfCell can support 16 active users simultaneously, with DL rate reaching 150Mbps and UL rate reaching 75Mbps. We believe that the small and exquisite elfCell will gain widespread popularity among operators by tremendously reducing their deployment and maintenance cost," Wei Bai added.

Both Baicells and Qualcomm Technologies will exhibit elfCell on their stands at Mobile World Congress 2016. Please visit Baicells' stand in Hall 1, 1A21, or the Qualcomm booth (Hall 3, stand #3E10).
