As the world's largest 4G operator, China Mobile plans to officially launch VoLTE service in the end of 2015, which will be a major event in the development of global VoLTE industry.
In the past few years, Huawei has been working closely with China Mobile Shanghai branch(hereinafter referred to as “Shanghai Mobile”) in the construction of 4G network, and kept in the leading position in the VoLTE commercialization preparation process: in MAE held in Shanghai in June 2014, they successfully conducted China-South Korea VoLTE international roaming service demonstration; completed the first Asia-Europe VoLTE international roaming service test with KPN in October 2014; made the VoLTE commercial call successfully at the end of December 2014, and opened the internal friendly user experiences tests in the first half of 2015.
In May 2015, Shanghai Mobile achieved full coverage of VoLTE services in key areas of Shanghai, and achieved whole network coverage in the end of June. With the availability of whole VoLTE network services ability, it will be soon for Shanghai Mobile to provide VoLTE HD audio and video services for 4G subscribers in the whole city.
Shanghai has always been the competing market for main international vendors, equipments of multiple vendors are used in the live network of Shanghai Mobile, after the introduction of Huawei IMS solution for VoLTE networking, the IMS core network needs to connect with 6 kinds of equipments of multiple vendors in the live network. In this complex environment, Shanghai Mobile and Huawei cooperated with other departments to evaluate and reasonably plan of network from each vendors in advance, they visualized the docking risks, rapidly settled the interoperability problems and effectively promoted the commercial deployment of VoLTE.
In the verification of services on devices, Shanghai Mobile conducted tests on the three mainstream devices, namely Huawei Mate 7, Samsung S5 and HTC M8, at present, the average voice MOS value has exceeded 3.7.
By the end of May in this year, Shanghai Mobile has deployed and opened more than 10,000 4G base stations, achieving full coverage of all urban and rural areas in Shanghai.
