ZTE, China Mobile Research Institute Jointly Win GTB Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation Awar

Updated:2015/5/15 13:40

ZTE Corporation, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, has won the Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation award at the Global Telecom Business (GTB) Innovation Awards 2015. ZTE and the China Mobile Research Institute were presented the award for their achievements in Pre5G research and commercialization, following the launch of ZTE’s Pre5G Massive MIMO (multiple-input and multiple-output) base station.

The GTB Innovation Awards are presented to the most exciting projects in the telecoms industry, with the Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation Award recognizing ZTE’s leading position and contribution to the commercialization of 5G.

Alan Burkitt-Gray, Editor of GTB, said, “We have been hosting the GTB Innovation Awards for several years, and each year we witness the emergence of exciting and innovative products and services brought by key players in the telecoms industry. We congratulate ZTE and the China Mobile Research Institute for their well-deserved success in this category.”

3D/Massive MIMO is one of the key technologies in 5G, adopting large numbers of antennas to increase frequency efficiency and enlarge network coverage and system throughput, fully utilizing operators' existing sites and frequency. In November 2014, ZTE launched the world’s first field test of TD-LTE (time-division – long-term evolution) 3D/Massive MIMO, with China Mobile. The test performance was highly successful - the 3D/Massive MIMO base station leveraged a system throughput of four-six times higher than a conventional 8-ant bases station, and enhanced wireless coverage significantly in diversified multi-path communication environments, including urban and indoor scenarios.

At Mobile World Congress 2015, ZTE successfully demonstrated its Massive MIMO base station using a 20MHz at 2.6G frequency band, with the average speed reaching more than 400 Mbps.

ZTE Corporation will further enhance its cooperation with industrial partners in 5G technology and pre-commercialization to a wider extent, continuing to empower the commercialization of 5G technology.
