Ericsson plans to expand its purchases from Taiwan to include CPE products supporting HSPA and LTE standards as well as IPTV products in addition to current 2G and 3G products, the Chinese-language Commercial Times recently quoted Stefan Johansson, president of Ericsson Taiwan, as indicating.
Ericsson has dispatched a purchasing representative to be stationed in Taiwan for the first time, the paper quoted Taiwan Ericsson as saying.
By 2020, global demand for connected devices, including handsets, notebooks, MIDs and gaming machines, is expected to top 50 billion units, with 4G LTE networks playing a key role for mobile connectivity, Johansson stated.
Nearly 20 LTE networks are expected to enter commercial operations by the end of 2010, Ericsson Taiwan cited data released by the GSMA (GSM Association) as indicating.
IP STBs from Zyxel Communications and Wistron NeWeb, as well as CPE products with Ericsson's 3.5G modules from Wistron, Micro-Star International (MSI) and Clevo are likely to enter Ericsson's LTE supply chain, the paper indicated.
