Ericsson launches EriClub at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

Ericsson and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) today jointly announce the opening of EriClub of BUPT, a registered student club acting as a bridge between Ericsson and the university students with the goal of cultivating tomorrow’s elite of the ICT industry in China by promoting interaction and fostering innovation.

The launch of EriClub of BUPT is part of Ericsson's long-term commitment to nurturing highly competent, professional and versatile talent force for the ICT industry in China. During the first half of 2009, Ericsson Greater China offered over 1000 internships to university students and more than 1,000 job opportunities, over 1/3 of the latter have been taken by fresh graduates.

The inauguration ceremony of EriClub of BUPT was attended by Mats H Olsson, president of Ericsson Greater China, and Professor Fang Bingxing, president of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, both of whom accepted a letter of appointment as Honorary President from the student chairperson of the club.

The EriClub of BUPT will be run under the direction of core club members and guided by an advisory board consisting of senior executives from Ericsson. As a leader in the global ICT industry, Ericsson will leverage on its rich experience and influence in the industry to assist the EriClub of BUPT to create a variety of tailor-made activities for its club members, enabling students joining EriClub of BUPT to connect with their peers and have direct interaction with experts and professionals both from Ericsson and the ICT industry. The club will also make the most of new media and social networking services to promote peer interaction among students and enrich the interaction between Ericsson and the students in innovative ways.

Professor Fang Bingxing, president of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, says: “Ericsson is widely respected as one of the world’s leading companies. We expect EriClub to open doors to more social experience for students at BUPT and enrich their knowledge and understanding of the industry and the society as a whole. We also hope that EriClub will enable the students to build up their capabilities and employability and realize their full potential.”

With EricClub of BUPT as a start, Ericsson plans to expand the EriClub initiative to more top universities throughout China next year to connect more students who share a passion for ICT and hopes to leverage this “bridge” between the company and the university students to engage as many young talents as possible by enabling them to put their innovative ideas into practice and unleash their potential.

Ericsson enjoys a long history of collaboration with universities around the world. In China, the company has initiated a wide range of interactive programs with many top Chinese universities and colleges beyond the collaborative efforts in academic research and development. The most recent initiatives include the "Ericsson Cup" Campus Cooling Innovation Design Competition that has successfully attracted hundreds of talented young people from top universities across the country to demonstrate their innovation in cooling design.
