Fiji’s monopoly provider of local and national telephony services, Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL), has rolled out a new IP network in partnership with Datacraft to meet the growing demand for voice and data services in the country. The new Next Generation IP Network is based on a Cisco MPLS platform and consists of a territory-wide IP Backbone combined with a Metro Ethernet Network (MEN) in the capital city of Suva. It is understood that Datacraft was tasked with establishing a highly resilient and efficient replacement infrastructure for the operator. The new network will enable TFL to offer a range of advanced services such as high speed data, capacity on demand and voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP). Telecom Fiji's IP-based network was completed in seven months at a cost of over USD1 million.
