Samsung Electronics' Taiwan subsidiary has won a WiMAX supply contract from Vmax Telecom, to supply the firm with base stations, network access gateways and related equipment. The company, a joint venture between Vibo Telecom and Tecom has an operating license covering the North of the country.

The contract is for 200 base stations and related equipment and has a valuation of between NT$400-500 million (US$12-15 million). The company has previously outlined a planned investment of NT$2 billion (US$60 million) for its network.

Vmax Telecom inked a deal last year to build a nationwide network by teaming up with Vastar Cable which holds a corresponding WiMAX license in the South of the country.
