Chinese telecommunications network services provider Huawei Technologies has announced that it assisted Saudi Arabian telecom operator Mobily to deploy an IP/MPLS unified core network.

According to Huawei, it has supplied six NetEngine 5000E core routers to deploy the nationwide bearer network. It will enable the operator to deploy an IP/MPLS unified core network for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) evolution for Mobily.

Huawei' s NE5000E is a 10Tbps switch capacity based core router which is claimed to be expanded from single chassis to B2B chassis and multi chassis with flexible scalability. The NE5000E also implements green technologies, which can reduce the power consumption and TCO for operators, and meets the requirements of new generation networks on bandwidth performance, service quality and service provision capabilities.

Abdulaziz Al Tamami, COO of Mobily, said: "The deployment of the unified IP/MPLS core network is very significant for Mobily to develop FMC services in the future. Mobily has maintained good cooperation with Huawei in various areas. For the current project, Mobily has again chosen Huawei because of its rich experience in core router and its adequate understanding of our needs."
