Huawei Honors Bookham With Excellent Core Partner Award

Bookham, Inc.(Nasdaq: BKHM), a leading provider of optical components, modules andsubsystems, today announced that it has received the Excellent Core PartnerAward from Huawei -- one of the world's leading manufacturers of equipment forthe telecommunications industry. Bookham President and CEO, Alain Couder,received the award at the Huawei 2008 Core Partner Convention. Huawei executive management congratulated Alain, saying: "We are pleasedto give the 2008 Excellent Core Partner Award to Bookham as they have been acore optical component and module supplier to Huawei for many years. The award -- the fourth vendor recognition Bookham has received fromHuawei in recent years -- reflects the consistent delivery of highperformance, high reliability products by Bookham, and the quality of Bookhamcustomer service. "As one of the industry's top vendors, with global sales to the world'slargest carriers, Huawei is a very important customer for Bookham," said AlainCouder. Bookham supplies a wide range of its high end optical components andmodules to Huawei, including 10Gb/s co-packaged laser-modulators, receivers,directly modulated and tunable lasers, and 980nm pumps, all of which areassembled in the company's facility in Shenzhen. Bookham has invested significantly in local pre- and post-sales customerservice and continued to expand its Shenzhen engineering teams. The companyworks to partner with customers on new product designs, technical support,quality assurance and development planning. Bookham opened its advanced manufacturing facility in Shenzhen in March2004. Since then, the assembly of all the company's telecom products hasmoved to China. Key quality systems and processes have been established inShenzhen in line with the company's best practices and global ISO9000:2000registration. Bookham now employs over 1,300 people in its Shenzhen assemblyfacility.
