Chinese vendors dominate $4.4bn TD-SCDMA tender

Updated:2008/11/13 11:25

Chinese network suppliers dominated China Mobile’s 30 billion yuan ($4.4 billion)  TD-SCDMA tender announced this week, winning nearly 90% of the total.

The state-owned Datang Telecom Group and affiliates Alcatel Shanghai Bell and Fiberhome was the biggest single winner, taking 38%-40% of the tender, local media reported Wednesday.

China Mobile’s unlisted parent company issued the tender for 23,000 base stations in 28 cities. It has made no announcement about the contracts.

ZTE won 28%-30%, but its shares fell 3.36% in Hong Kong. In the first round TD-SCDMA tender last year it captured 47% of the total contract.

The Huawei-Nokia Siemens joint venture, TD Tech, captured 25%-26%, state-owned vendor Potevio 6% and Ericsson 4.5%.
