Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei Technologies will replace all 4,500 base stations and 150 base station controllers of the GSM of T-Mobile Czech with its products under an agreement signed with T-Mobile Czech lately.
The replacement is scheduled to be completed a year and a half later. The project is aimed at further improving the network performance of T-Mobile Czech.
As a subsidiary of T-Mobile, T-Mobile Czech came into service in 1996. Now it is the biggest mobile telecom operator in Czech. It recorded 5.31 million subscribers by the end of June 2008.
The new base stations and base stations controllers will enable T-Mobile Czech to offer EDGE service and support new services such as WAMR. In the future, it will also kick off EDGE2 service. The replacement will be carried out mainly at night to ensure smooth operation of telecom traffic during the day.
