NSN aims at solutions for Indian mkt
Updated:2008/11/11 13:27
Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), the global telecom infrastructure major plans to develop solutions aimed at the Indian market, and has al NSN is already engaged with two major mobile operators for the deployment of these products. Stephan Scholz, CTO, NSN said one of the key innovations from their stable is centering around the theme “Internet for the next billion”. He declined to reveal the names of phone firms Nokia Siemens is working with for testing such solutions. Explaining the solution, Mr Scholz said that they have come up with a WiMax solution, which opens up the possibility of providing connectivity for an entire village or a single PC, which can link up multiple STD phones. The Wimax solution developed by Nokia Siemens will also allow organisations to create wide-area wireless networks, at lower costs and allow them to be deployed much faster. Mr Scholz felt that for every telecom operator in India, the challenge has been to increase the average revenue per user while also being cost effective. Meanwhile, NSN which has its software R&D centre in Bangalore has announced the expansion of its facilities. It currently employs around 1,600 engineers and plans are to take it beyond 2,000 in the near future. The Bangalore R&D centre is one the largest entity for NSN globally, with its other two units being located in Finland and China.
