Nokia Siemens Network¨s softswitching solution crosses 200-customer mark
Updated:2008/11/5 09:56
Following a string of deals, most lately with two prominent operators in North America, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has carved out its stellar position in the area of mobile softswitching, as it crossed its 200-customer milestone. “We are extremely pleased that our recent landmark agreements in North America also mark our 200 the mobile softswitching deployment. This innovative solution has long been a point of pride for us, underscoring our ‘first mover’ mindset in designing a technology that is absolutely key to the continued success of mobile operators. Gaining 200 customers, and beyond, is a strong endorsement of the benefits of our solution, and makes us even prouder,” said Jürgen Walter, head of Converged Core, Nokia Siemens Networks. Based on open standards specified initially in 3GPP release 4 and subsequent releases 5, 6 and 7, Nokia Siemens Network’s mobile softswitching solution is believed to rationalize the design of traditional circuit-switched core networks, allowing operators to realize significant savings in operating expenditures of up to 70 percent in transmission, site, and operation and management costs, said the company. NSN says that its solution separates the media gateway (MGW) from the centralized call control thereby enabling operators to locate MGWs near traffic hot spots to handle local traffic locally, thus by passing the need to route all traffic through a central site. NSN says this results in reduced costs for transmission and site maintenance.
