Huawei Technologies has won a plurality of the tenders awarded by China Telecom (CT) in the latest round of CDMA equipment supply bidding.
In total, Huawei has secured around 26% of the orders. But ZTE was hot on its heels, snatching up 23%.
Alcatel-Lucent, Motorola and Nortel split the majority of the remaining contracts, with Alcatel-Lucent winning 19%, Motorola winning 16% and Nortel winning 14%.
The remaining 2% were awarded to Samsung.
According to TradingMarkets, last year Huawei captured just 3% of the domestic CDMA market, with ZTE carving out a 32% market share.
Chinese news site the Southern Metropolitan News, quoting an inside source, has reported that the contracts awarded are worth a combined RMB10 billion ($1.46 billion).
This is small potatoes compared to the $3.9 billion CT had allocated, and is due to competitive undercutting from Huawei and ZTE.
