Ericsson And Tatara Systems Collaborate On IMS CDMA Femtocell Solution
Updated:2008/10/8 18:25
Ericsson and Tatara Systems recently announced that the companies are collaborating to deliver a CDMA femtocell solution over an IMS Core Network to provide voice, messaging and data services to homes and enterprises. Ericsson and Tatara, the leaders in SIP-based network integration and femtocell convergence, have successfully demonstrated this solution, which enables CDMA network operators to cost effectively integrate femtocells into their IMS networks. This provides both enterprises and home subscribers in-building service levels that meet or exceed the service levels and voice quality of macro networks, while enabling improved economics and delivery of advanced services. The solution combines Ericsson's IMS Core Network infrastructure with a SIP-based femtocell and the Tatara Convergence Server (TCS) for CDMA-1xRTT. "Ericsson is excited about integrating our IMS Core Network Solution with strong technology partners such as Tatara to bring new revenue generating opportunities to operators via femtocell technologies," said Angel Ruiz, president and CEO of Ericsson North America. "Ericsson's unprecedented leadership in the IMS domain blends well with Tatara's convergence capabilities - enabling the quick and cost-effective deployment of new revenue generators for operators responding to a dynamic subscriber market." The Tatara Convergence Server is a standards-based SIP/IMS interworking application server. It enables seamless interworking between IMS or VoIP infrastructure and macro mobile networks to deliver cost-effective IP application services to legacy handsets irrespective of the connected domain or access technology. Ericsson is the leader in standards-based IMS solutions, with more than 50 IMS system contracts to date. Ericsson's solution caters to the feature-rich IMS environment required by providers today, providing scalability, ease of deployment and standards-based integration points allowing providers a faster time to market for new applications and services. "Tatara is delighted to be teaming with a global leader like Ericsson on this innovative approach to IMS and SIP-based CDMA network integration," said E.Y. Snowden, president and CEO of Tatara Systems. "In addition to providing increased service levels for homes and enterprises, our IP-centric approach to integration with Ericsson's IMS core network facilitates mobile convergence and the development and delivery of future applications for the enterprise and home."
