Motorola Saturday took Vinaphone's network to Vietnam by announcing contracts worth $28million with VietNam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT) group.

The deal would expand Vinaphone's GSM network in Vietnam's Southeast and Southern Central provinces.

It is Motorola's third GSM network expansion project with Vinaphone in less than a year. The contracts further strengthen the cooperation between Motorola and VNPT that began more than a decade ago.

Motorola will provide network equipment, software and service to expand the GSM network for Vinaphone, a subsidiary of VNPT, to cover suburban and rural areas of VietNam's Southeast and Southern Central provinces.

The new network will offer high quality and reliable voice and data services for subscribers, which its especially important for some rural areas that have never had mobile telecommunications services before. Shipment of the equipment will begin in Q4, 2008.

Motorola and Vinaphone signed the first contract to expand and enhance Vinaphone's GSM network in VietNam's Major cities in November 2007 and the second contract to expand the network to the 12 Northern Provinces in June 2008.
