GVT to test IPTV with Ericsson, Cisco

Updated:2008/8/18 11:25

Brazilian fixed telephony and internet access provider Global Village Telecom (GVT) plans to launch two IPTV pilot trials later this year or early 2009 to test solutions from Ericsson and Cisco, BNamericas reports citing a statement from the operator. The telco invited 20 equipment vendors to submit proposals for its IPTV rollout last November and received eleven replies. GVT’s trial will cover around 300 households.

GVT is awaiting a decision from the government on bill PL 29, which would allow telcos to offer the full range of channels rather than video-on-demand (VoD) only. Once the bill is approved, operators will be able to calculate service prices and set launch dates for true commercial service.
