Ecuadorian state-owned carrier, Pacifictel has selected Airspan's WiMAX base stations and related CPEs (customer premise equipment), for a high-speed WiMAX network deployment. Located in Guayaquil, the largest and most populous city in Ecuador, Pacifictel will deploy Airspan's base stations throughout the city to provide businesses with IP services.

Amit Ancikovsky, Airspan's VP of Sales and General Manager for the Americas, stated, "We are very excited to be working with Pacifictel. We currently have several customers in Ecuador and have deployed thousands of units in this country during the last 12 months. Significant broadband expansion initiatives are already being planned by Pacifictel."

Declan Byrne, Chief Marketing Officer of Airspan, added: "This account win is important for a couple of reasons. Firstly because Pacifictel is an established ILEC in a growing economy and a Service Provider that Airspan wants to be associated with as a provider of WiMAX equipment. Secondly, it is yet another new account win for Airspan with our WiMAX solution set, adding to our momentum of account growth across all regions of the world."
