Cisco Systems reported revenues for the fiscal fourth quarter to July up 9.9 percent from a year earlier to USD 10.4 billion. Net profit rose 4.4 percent to USD 2.0 billion. Cisco said it saw solid growth in orders during the quarter, with product orders up 10 percent and services orders up 20 percent. The product book to bill ratio was above 1. Order growth was particularly strong in Asia Pacific, up 19 percent, while the European market grew 11 percent, the US and Canada were up 7 percent and Japan rose 10 percent. On a product basis, quarterly routing revenue was up 8 percent from a year ago and switching revenue rose 5 percent, while unified communications increased 29 percent and application networking services were up 30 percent. Despite the economic slowdown, Cisco said it plans to continue to invest in its long-term strategy and pursue expansion in new and adjacent markets. The company aims to win a larger share of customer spending during the downturn, a strategy pursued previously, chairman and CEO John Chambers said in an interview posted on the group's website.
