Alcatel-Lucent said on Thursday that it has successfully deployed its packet optical transport technology for Shanghai Mobile, an auxiliary of China Mobile, in line with its IP network transformation.
Signed through Alcatel Shanghai Bell in China, the deal is expected to provide Shanghai Mobile with high speed connectivity required to roll out new multimedia applications such as mobile video and music on demand, and simultaneously reduce backhaul costs and increasing service reach. The network, to be completed in time for the 2008 Olympic Games, has reportedly been designed to support full packet traffic, including high-speed Internet and video services.
While speaking on the occasion, Wan Guoguang, deputy general manager of Shanghai Mobile, said, “Alcatel-Lucent''s packet optical transport solution helps us further differentiate in today's competitive marketplace and address the increased needs of data services and IP network transformation. We can better support mobile traffic end-to-end with greater flexibility and reliability, while decreasing our operating costs.”
