Aruba Networks has announced that it is supplying secure wireless equipment to Hong Kong's PCCW for use at roughly 2,000 new Wi-Fi hot spots serving some 350 Hong Kong Government premises. Under the "GovWiFi" program, the government will be provided with free high-speed Wi-Fi internet access at some 350 Hong Kong Government premises, including at least three public parks, for the next five years. When completed, the network will include thousands of Aruba access points as well as multiple Multi-Service Mobility Controllers located at redundant PCCW network operations centers. More than 30 government premises were commissioned in late March, with the remainder slated for installation before the middle of 2009. "The scope and purpose of the network means it must be easy to manage and troubleshoot, offer robust security to protect privacy and data integrity, and run 24 x 7," said Larry Wong, PCCW's Director of Marketing and Products, Commercial Group. "These requirements are all key attributes of Aruba's secure mobility architecture and made the solution well suited for the project."
